Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce (no sugar added)
  • cup whole wheat flour

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups (1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1 1/2 cups)
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie cutters

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Mix ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese, unsweetened applesauce, and whole wheat flour. Stir until a cohesive dough forms
  3. Roll and shape: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into fun shapes, or simply cut into squares or rectangles
  4. Bake the biscuits: Place shaped biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are firm and lightly golden
  5. Cool completely: Allow biscuits to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving
